The Edge of Love
Baseado numa fase da vida instável do grande poeta galês, Dylan Thomas, considerado um dos maiores poetas do século XX de língua inglesa. Morreu jovem, aos 39 anos, mas deixou um legado poético que tem influenciado toda uma geração de escritores.
No Limite do Amor é portanto um drama biográfico, um filme de época que retrata a relação entre a poesia de Dylan e a sua vida conturbada. Tem por base poética e biográfica The Love Letters of Dylan Thomas e outros Poemas.
Keira Knightley no papel de Vera Phillips, uma cantora de cabaret que entretém a população nos corredores do metropolitano (os tubes londrinos), durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial.
A actriz é talvez a força maior deste filme, a personagem que faz a ligação a Dylan mais coerente, destacando-se entre os quatro protagonistas. Uma excelente interpretação em que se disponibilizou até a cantar. E sem dúvida que este papel temático lhe assenta lindamente!

A história explora o submundo boémio da Londres em tempo de guerra e as complexas vidas íntimas de dois jovens casais cujos amores se vêem perigosamente interligados num filme biográfico que se distancia substancialmente do género tradicional.

Fica-nos a ideia que o actor Matthew Rhys (da galardoada série televisiva Brothers and Sisters) não consegue agarrar a personagem... ou o autêntico Dylan Thomas era mesmo assim?

Um filme interessante, apesar de tudo, um drama intenso, não perfeito, excessivamente longo.
As críticas dividem-se, como sempre! Mas nunca me deixo influenciar quando um filme ou um livro me seduzem.
Composing music for The Edge of Love has been an absolute joy.
The opportunity to write a dramatic score with original songs for a film is rare and special. I was fortunate to have been involved with The Edge of Love early in the filmmaking process, as that allowed these ideas to come to fruition. It gave me a chance to tailor-make the songs as an integral part of the score.
